Happy Birthday Mama!

This weekend we attended an early birthday party for Clay's Mom. You only turn 60 once so it was a big bash! Happy Birthday Grandma Charlotte( kinda funny both our moms are named Charlotte. The kids call Clay's mom Mama and they call my mom Nana). My handsome Hubby and his wonderful mom!
The Whole gang was there! A couple of important people were missing but all the siblings were in attendance. It was a very special party, we're so glad we got to see the whole family!
The Grand kids were all in attendance too, another special occasion. Doesn't Grandma look so happy? We had such a good time the morning after the party. We headed out to Scottsdale and got our family pictures taken by none other than the very talented and very professional Ana (liquid shutter). Awesome! There was a sign that said no climbing on the art but we didn't see it until we were done. OOPS!
And the hostess of the HUGE birthday bash..... AMY. We couldn't have picked a better party planner. The food was good, the games were fun (Go Bobcats!!), and spending time with family was enjoyable! Thank you so much AMY and the whole Thacker bunch. You guys are soooo awesome! We can't wait for the next family party, should be soon, Thanksgiving or Christmas right?? I'm ready!
Happy 60th Charlotte!!!

Quick Weekend

Our weekends tend to fly by. Even though we have Friday's off from school, we can never find enough time to do everything we want to. I did find some time yesterday to do a little bit of sewing. This was a quick little quilt for a quick weekend! I made this for the girls for car rides. Sydney is always cold, and they both love to snuggle up under a quilt on long rides. This is the perfect size, not too big and bulky and not to small and cold. I love the weekends!

Uncle Will's 29th Birthday!

We had a small get together at my Mom and Dad's to celebrate Will's 29th birthday. Nothing big or fancy but we had a good time. We grilled steaks, mom made homemade potato salad, we had cake and ice cream and opened presents. We all got Will things he needed for his camping trailer, since hunting season is coming up. He liked everything. We can't wait to go camping with him again, now he's prepared for anything! Nana and Papa of course loved seeing the girls!
I was glad Clay was able to go with us. A night out with my husband is the perfect night, even if we did spend it at my parents house with family. I was telling Will, When I was 29 I had been married for 10 years. He said, "Don't remind me". I think one day he'll find that special girl that can put up with him. He really is an awesome guy, my girls adore their Uncle Will. Will you're the greatest, Happy 29th!

Chicken Eggs!

When this picture was taken, only our little yellow hen was laying. After we found her eggs outside of the coop where the dog could get them, we locked the chickens in the coop for a couple days. She laid an egg in the coop where she was supposed to.Now we have two chickens out of three laying. They both lay in their box in the coop. It's lined with pine needles and nice and comfy. They squawk when they are finished laying. It's so funny to hear them going nuts. It's like they're saying, "hey look everyone, I laid an egg, hurry, come look".
The girls favorite part of the day is going out to the chicken coop to get the eggs. On the weekends when were home all day, when they hear the chickens start squawking, they run out to the coop and get the eggs while they're still warm.
The girls take turns checking for eggs. We now get two eggs everyday! We love to have breakfast for dinner. The Easter Bunny brought the best thing ever this year! Chickens that are good pets and keep us fed and happy. Who could ask for anything better!

Crazy Quilt Weekend!

Labor Day weekend this year was spent quilting. I had three quilts to finish before this weekend coming up, and no other free time. So I got busy! I was actually killing time waiting for the plumbers to come, which they never did. (Didn't call me back, I sat around waiting, NOT good RAUL'S plumbing, not good!) This quilt is for Michelle for her baby shower on Saturday! Happy baby shower.
I like to make the baby quilts, they go really fast.
The next quilt is my moms. I've been working on it forever. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, then it turned to Mothers Day, then her Birthday. Well, I finally got it done.
She picked the material and I got to sewing!
It is huge and soft and snugly. Here you go Mom, enjoy!
The next quilt was for our next door neighbor. She had all four wisdom teeth pulled. While she was sleeping thanks to lots of good pain meds her mom brought over some Eegee's to share with us. We loved it! We decided to do something for her since she shared her yummy treats with us.
The girls helped pick through my material. They picked which stitches I used, and I sewed and cut the quilt.
We took it over to her yesterday. She loved it! Get better soon Mikeaela!
Labor Day weekend was relaxing and fun. Labor Day itself was spent working on our bathroom remodel. The weather wasn't cooperating but we managed to get one piece of drywall cut and hung. Now it's off to work for three days. I love holiday's that fall on Monday's!!!

Alex's Tooth

Alex has been begging us for days to pull her front tooth. We pulled one front tooth a couple of weeks ago. We tied dental floss around her tooth, then we tied the floss to the door. Sydney and I went in the kitchen while Daddy slammed the front door. Out popped her tooth. Now, she wanted to pull the other front tooth the same way. It needed to be done so I told her to work on her front tooth and get it real loose and then we would pull it. Tonight we tied dental floss around her other loose tooth, then tied it to the pantry door. You can see it needed to be done pretty bad, her big teeth were already coming in.
Watch the video of the whole event. Don't forget to pause the music off to the side ---->. Don't worry it's not gruesome. Our favorite part of the video is at the very end. Clay is telling Alex that her mouth isn't even bleeding anymore. Then she shows Sydney and Sydney says"I think it is"!

The first day of school!

Sadly, the school year has started (almost a month ago, this is a little late!). The girls were excited to get to see their friends again. There were many changes made over the summer so I was very anxious and a little scared to go back. Hopefully all the changes will be for the best for the kids. Sydney is in fourth grade this year. She has an excellent teacher and is adjusting well. She has quite a few of her good friends in her class. Her one very best friend is in another class. She was very sad that this little girl was not in her class, but a couple Friday play dates made up for missed playtime. She actually has a book for every subject this year. That can make for a heavy backpack full of homework if she doesn't get her work done in class. She has done very well so far. Her favorite thing about school so far this year is seeing her friends (and going to the Library and seeing mom, of course!). Every Thursday they have a little ceremony with the fourth and fifth graders out at the flag pole. They recognize a few kids from each class. These kids have turned in all their work, been nice to each other, helped out around campus, and have done other things. Sydney has been recognized twice already. What a good kid. Have a great year Sydney! (See her jammed finger in this picture? I was at work the week before the kids started so Nana had to watch the kids. They decided to put up the water slide. She jammed her middle finger going down the slide and at the same time she hyper extended her two fingers on either side of her middle finger as well as her middle finger. Talk about HURT! Her fingers turned black and blue just in time for school to start.)
Alex is in second grade this year. She has the same wonderful teacher Sydney had for second grade. She finds the homework a little boring. Their supposed to do one page a day of homework, and then turn the packet in on Thursday. She's always done by Monday or Tuesday and wanting more. She's one smart cookie our little Alex. She loves school, she also has quite a few friends in her class. When she learned her BFF Yasmine was going to be in her class she was so excited. She danced around and was giddy for days. Both kids were up early the first day of school, mom was too but not by choice!
The one thing Alex didn't like was having the name tag that said ALEXANDRA on her desk. We solved that pretty quick. She unpacked her supplies and eagerly awaited the ringing of the bell. Alex's favorite thing about school so far is recess and playing with her friends (and of course Library!) I was a little sad this year compared to most years. My babies are growing up, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't know of any other parents that like spending time with their kids as much as we do. We enjoy family time. We are not prepared for that day when we become less important than their friends, or boys, or driving, or the mall. I wish they could stay little forever. They are however, growing up to be the best little girls we know. How did we get so lucky?
Sydney came in to say goodbye too. As we were walking back to Sydney's class she says "Mom, that almost made me cry". I looked down at her with tears in my eyes and said "Yeah me too". Have a great year Alex!
I was so nervous the first couple of weeks of school. I was not only going to be the Librarian at the Primary school, but at the Jr. High as well. I also found out I was in charge of teaching a class the last period of Jr. High and I was in charge of the lunch detention kids at Jr. High. I felt very unprepared and a little under qualified. Now that I have a grasp on things, I'm really REALLY enjoying my job. Jr. High can be a little difficult with all those raging hormones, but once the kids get to know and respect you, they can be a fun bunch of kids. I am truly blessed to have a job that I get to see my own kids on a daily basis, but also a job that I enjoy. The one thing I miss the most is Ms. Richardi. She always said Hi and good morning, left little notes in my box. She was awesome. I hope she's having fun in New Jersey, say Hi to Buddy for us! We miss you ANNE~

Fishing with the boys!

When we went camping with Uncle Will, we also went fishing. The lake was only a couple miles from our campsite. The girls have wanted to go fishing FOREVER, now was their chance. Uncle Will was nominated to be the master baiter. He did a great job. In the end, I don't think he liked his title much. The girls made him re-bait their hooks every other throw or so. He was really not liking fishing I think!
The girls (in the beginning) were so excited to finally get to fish. They had their poles, their hooks baited, and were ready to catch some fish.
Then the waiting began. Not their favorite part of fishing that for sure!
I think Uncle Will and Papa liked the waiting game. Papa slept while Will concentrated. The girls were bored and decided to look for bugs instead. Now they were having fun!
The coolest bugs always seem to find the girls. Alex was visited by a very friendly dragonfly. She was so excited. Sydney said they were good luck. It didn't bring them any luck with fishing, poor girls.
They also found snails. I swear, if these girls could be outside every day surrounded by things most boys would love, they would be in heaven. They are nature/wildlife/insect lovers for sure! I have no idea where they get it from.
Then more waiting, more baiting, and more no biting! We stayed for an hour two. They had had enough. I doubt they'll want to fish again anytime soon. Since we've been home, we've tied a littlest pet shop to each pole. They practise casting littlest pet shop animals in their rooms. If by some miracle we do go fishing again, they'll be master casters!
Then there is Master Baiter himself! He was patient (for the most part) and put up with noisy inexperienced fisher girls. He even went back to the lake (with no little girls) the next day. Still no luck. Let's hear it for determination. Go Uncle Will!

Saturday Morning Cartoons Anyone?

It's Saturday morning. I could be doing a number of things right now since we have a full agenda today. I could be getting ready for the baptism and birthday party we're going to, I could be finishing the 2nd of 3 quilts I have to make this weekend, I could be getting some much needed beauty sleep (we all know I need it!), or I could be getting my fill of Tom and Jerry cartoons on this fine Saturday morning. Am I doing any one of those things? Heck NO, I'm blogging. Priorities people!
I was rudely awakened by our dog this morning. He was barking his play bark. I knew nobody in the house was awake so I reluctantly got out of bed to investigate. Cassius was having a good ol time with his new found buddy, Whip Tail Scorpion. Now if you know my girls at all, they were going to want to see this. What is a mom to do? Catch it of course! They need their beauty sleep too! That's exactly what I did. As of this posting, only Alex has awoken to her surprise. She loves it, wants to know where I got it, and says it's the biggest one she's ever seen. Go me, supermom!!
A couple of weeks ago Clay brought home a surprise for the girls. We love Dad's surprises. This one was one of our favorites.
A baby (baby) Bunny! Awwwww, it's so cute, we all said in unison. Does Daddy know his girls or what? He found this poor bunny in the middle of the road. He tried to shoo it out of harms way but it wouldn't budge. He didn't want it to get hurt, so home he brought it to the wildlife loving girls.
And love it they did. We only let them pet him a little bit, he is a wild animal you know. Then they washed their hands. It was time to let the little guy go free in the safety of our yard.
He still didn't go far but at least he was safe. We haven't seen him since that day. Hopefully he is doing ok, at least we haven't seen him in the middle of the road. Our work here is done!
We may have made a big mistake letting our little bunny go. We have a couple HUGE HAWKS living out back. A little bunny is always on their menu. So are Chickens!! Now that our chickens are laying eggs, we're a little protective of them.
And so to you Mr Hawk we say, watch where you're swooping buddy. We're watching you like a Hawk mister!
I'm off to watch cartoons, Happy Saturday!
